How do I change my utility or other service provider for bills reporting?

The credit bureaus require a new tradeline on your credit reports for each utility service provider. So if you move or change providers, you’ll need to close out your old utility obligations and add the new ones instead. 


To close a utility obligation: 

  1. Log in to Self and tap the Rent+Bills tab.   
  2. Select the bill payment obligation you wish to close.
  3. Tap Mark as closed
  4. Follow the steps to finish closing out the obligation.
  5. Add your new utility service providers when you have them. 

Once closed, we’ll report your old bill obligation as closed in good standing to the credit bureaus. As long as your premium subscription is active, you can add a new utility service provider and continue building credit with those payments.
